After a lovely shacharit, we took a bus to the Center For Wooden Boats.
The journey is a big part of the adventure. For some campers it was their first time on a school bus.
Some of the campers spent the ride learning mariners knots, or at least some sort of knots, with lanyard.
At the Center for Wooden Boats, our guides explained all about boats, floating, dry docks, Archimedes' principle, and specifically about Umiaqs.
We split into groups. The girls went out to the waterfront first. They put on life vests and began learning how to hold an oar and rowing.
And then they cast off!
We learned a special rowing song, used by the Natives of Alaska. You can hear it and watch us row in this video:
While the girls were busy rowing the boys were making boats. (Sorry, no photos.) Then we switched!
We returned to BCMH for some fun with
lanyard
Foosball
Sports
We prepared our new wooden boats and sailed them!
Here is a video of them in action!
The day ended with the youngest girls 'bunk mabool' teaching the rest of camp about the very first boat in the world. They are experts in Tevat Noach!
Today was a wonderful day on the water.
Tomorrow will be the Wet&Wild Water Olympics!
